Welcome back to Fletchucation. This week something a little different — the research behind the book, and what it taught me about the thing most inquiry teachers are missing.
I teach science, and am a little jaded from the 'discovery' theory. Just give kids some science-y lab equipment and they will figure out a natural principle on their own 😭
I think the idea that students are not ready is close to my experience, but not quite. I feel like inquiry is stage 2 or 3 of learning, students must first be introduced to a concept and guided through the basics before they can explore independently.
Certainly. I use ‘The Guided Trail’ for students who aren’t quite yet ready. Small steps of inquiry. Materials selected. Question selected but allow learners to think and sort.
